Chris Clack's exhibition (on until Feb 7, see previous post,) was well attended by a number of Grouchers, Ingrid Beasley and Bella Tullo moving on to The Vale to distribute brochures for a new season of Gallery Film at the Dulwich Picture Gallery Cinema. At the pub Nigel Soper extolled the work of Edward Burra, whose exhibition runs at Pallant House until Feb 19. He designed its handsome accompanying book (pictured above, see inside it here). Nigel and Hylda Sims talked about venues for Herne Hill Music Festival at which she will be performing later in the year. David Jennings extolled Whirled cinema and art studio near Loughborough Junction. Simon Tait came hot foot from the Critics Circle, where they had been discussing new awards. His paper, Arts Industry, is doing as well online as in print. Martin Fidler's drawing walks have been proving popular. He brought along David Bottomley, Literary Manager of Brockley Jack theatre, an encourager of playwrighting talent, and it was a pleasure to see him, too. Last but by no means least, Les Burton came on from Chris's and fell into conversation with Hylda, by which time, despite best intentions, we failed to return to Oglander Road.
